Fire in the Sky

Spent some time climbing up from the deep
Buried my skeletons where no one could see
Blindfolding faith with the promise to save
Shoveling dirt so we could dance on their stolen graves

Those long nights I couldn't sleep if I were dead
While I carried the torch for the stories they fed
So I made up my mind and I swallowed my pride
And I strapped in for the long, dark ride

Into the deep we go
Don't let me sleep alone

All I could see was
Fire in the sky
Heaven burning down
And I believed the lie
Tried to come clean
But my shackles were tied
And the blame was on me
For the fire in the sky

Daylight's coming, but the world is on fire
What will they burn on our funeral pyre
On my gravestone I hope it reads
To each what he owns and to each what he needs

Into the deep we go
Don't fall asleep alone

All I could see was
Fire in the sky
Heaven burning down
And I believed the lie
Tried to come clean
But my shackles were tied
And the blame was on me...

String me along and you'll see what I'm worth
Everyone's last when the lie-maker's first
Nobody cares if it's heroes or ghosts
All that matters is what we need most

All I could see was
Fire in the sky
Heaven burning down
And I believed the lie
Tried to come clean
But my shackles were tied
And the blame was on me
For the fire in the sky
